Myrosebud T. F. Monty of KitnKrazy

March 19, 2003 - March 18, 2008

My beloved Monty, what can I say. He was the sweetest boy I could ever have asked for. Monty was to be the stud of KitnKrazy when I was first starting out, unfortunately he was sick from the moment I brought him home.

Monty came from Joni Abrams of Myrosebud Sphynx Creations in Philadelphia. I remember how excited I was when we drove the 10 hours to go and pick him up. When I got him up he had a slight rash on the end of his tail. I was told he probably had some kind of mite infection and I was given some medication to take home with me. He got progressively worse. Communication with his breeder proved to be fruitless and I had little or no support or help.

Monty had severe allergies and spent the majority of his life with large weepy sores and was very uncomfortable. I had taken him to 2 specialists, had allergy testing and biopsies and it was determined that Monty had not a genetic problem but something localized to himself.  Monty was on steroids and medication for most of his young life. I finally determined to take him off everything and keep a close control on his environment and his food. I think I tried every food on the market but nothing helped.

Since his problem was deemed to be not genetic, I was told I could use him for breeding if I chose to by his dermatologist, but my vet and I thought that with him altered, it may help him. After altering him, for a bit it looked like he was going to be OK, but he had bad relapses, and recovering was longer each time.

Monty took a turn for the worst the first part of February 2008. He looked like he had been pulled from a fire. He was given a long acting steroid, but it made little difference. He started to spend days at a time in his bed and urinating on himself and in his bed.  He went from being my huge sucky wanting to be by my side or on my lap and sleeping with his head on my shoulder to keeping himself in his bed not wanting to be bothered.

I had to make a hard decision, but he had very little quality of life. I had him put down. Monty was only 5 years old.

Sleep my sweet friend, I will see you again. I love you.

When you are looking for a cat regardless of a breeding cat or a beloved pet, be sure to get to know the breeder. You need to have someone who will give you support and who will stand behind the kitten you buy. Health issues sometimes pop up but only a reputable breeder will help you when things go wrong. Be sure to check the breeder out thoroughly before you take you new baby home.

I paid $2500.00 US when the Canadian dollar was at 50%. ($3750.00). A lot of money but I thought that I was getting a beautiful stud boy.

Thankfully, Monty did produce 1 girl, a singleton. I kept her to be sure she did not have the same problem. KitnKrazy Mona Lisa Smiles is a true joy to me and she is fine and she has perfect skin. Her first litter was a singleton as well and I kept her. KitnKrazy What Lola Wants Lola Gets is also without any skin issues and she reminds me of her grandad with her sweet nature.

Monty will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on at KitnKrazy.
